5G processors keep getting faster, cheaper, and more efficient

If you ask me, the Dimensity 800 delivers the goods in terms of raw performance. It also happens to be the first MediaTek Dimensity processor to be made available globally. What’s good about this processor is that it supports 8GB RAM which is essential in a smartphone if you are looking for a device that can handle heavy gaming. It also has lots of internal storage space at 128GB for all your photo, video, and app needs. Moreover, the Dimensity 800 is a 7nm SoC.

Take a peek inside its specifications and you’ll see that the Dimensity 800 has four big ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2GHz, paired with four little ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2GHz. MediaTek is specifically promoting the chip’s inclusion of more performance cores compared to SoCs.

Since the Helio G90T has proved to be a godsend for 4G smartphones, there’s no doubt that the Dimensity 800 is touted to be a gamechanger for 5G devices. The Dimensity 800 series come with an integrated 5G modem that supports 5G+5G Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), VoNR, sub-6Ghz SA and NSA networks, and MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technology.

When it comes to multi-camera support, the Dimensity 800 shines here. It can support up to 64MP with a max resolution of 3840x2160p. One can also use multiple voice assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, etc with multiple ‘wake’ words or phrases. It also allows for HDR10+ content playback.

This chipset supports 5G with two carrier aggregation for 30% wider high-speed layer coverage, more seamless 5G handover, and higher average throughput performance compared to other solutions that use a single carrier. It also supports both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) sub-6GHz networks. Further, it includes multi-mode support for 2G/3G/4G and also supports Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS).

All of these features provide for seamless connectivity and an overall performance boost. MediaTek is all set to change the game when it comes to mid-range smartphones with 5G access, making this chipset among one of the first to do so at this kind of price range.
