King — The Biggest Breakthrough Musician Of 2022!
“Tu aake dekh le, Ho maine raatein kitni sari, Teri yaadon mein guzaari sohniye, Sohniye…” If you do not live under a rock, you surely must have heard these lyrics. These wordings are from the extremely popular independent pop song, Tu Aake Dekhle. The song was released in 2020, but it was not until the end of 2021, that this song gained popularity. In India, popular songs have only been coming from Bollywood. The independent music scene has been pretty much dead for a long time.
Gone are the days when singers like Lucky Ali and bands like Silk Route used to rule the music charts. The only two sources of music we have been getting music from are Bollywood and Punjabi Music Industry. Between all this monopoly, it is rare to find even a single song that makes it big in the music charts. But one man that has stood all alone in the world of music, and has made a huge name for himself is King.
King, or Arpan Kumar, appeared on MTV Hustle, which was India’s first rap show. Although he was not the winner of the show, he gained an immense following from it. He was one of the only contestants on the show to have amazing talent in the genre of hip-hop as well as pop. After the show finished, he dropped an album called The Carnival which had Tu Aake Dekhle in it. The song biggest the biggest by the end of 2021. Right now, it has more than 350 million views on YouTube, and I think it is the only independent song that has so many organic views.
Recently, he has also released another album called The Champagne Talk. One song from the album, Maan Meri Jaan, has become the first Indian song to reach Spotify’s Global Top 50. He has been signed to Badshah’s artist management company, The Blueprint. He has been making some big moves in Bollywood too. He recently did a song for Drishyam 2. He has just been in the music scene for 2 years, and he is already bigger than most household names. King surely has the potential to become the biggest independent artist in India.
