Every chipset offers certain features for powering smartphones. While some can provide more benefits for battery saving or camera advancements, others can have features focussing on connectivity, multimedia, and industry-leading AI performance. But what about a chipset focusing on gaming needs? MediaTek sensing this opportunity took the best advantage of this and launched the MediaTek Helio G-Series. MediaTek features innovative and cutting-edge technologies that boost the overall mobile gaming experience built on a highly power-efficient TSMC 12nm production process along with enhanced connectivity and location services.

Helio G36 is the latest chipset launched by MediaTek, the Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company known for manufacturing and powering mobile phones and appliances with their chipsets. Known to be the perfect successor to its previous G35, it varies a little bit from G37. Helio G36 is the chipset for entry-level gaming smartphones for ensuring a more seamless and power-efficient experience for avid gamers. We can expect it to power phones starting at Rs.10,000 since it is an entry-level chipset.

The Helio G36 bears the following features -

Processor — It provides an Octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU clocking at a speed of 2.2 GHz paired with the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU clocking at a speed of 680 MHz, and it supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM.

Display — Offering a maximum display rate of 2400 x 1080, it comes with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. A display refresh rate of 90 Hz is perfect for entry-level gaming smartphones, as it gives smoother scrolling of social streams, webpages, shopping, UI’s, and animations in apps.

MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite — Network Engine 2.0 ensures a faster response rate and uninterrupted connections while Resource management 2.0 ensures intelligent resource management of CPU, GPU, and memory for that constant performance and longer gameplay.

Camera — The MediaTek Helio G36 provides support for cameras up to 50MP, with dual camera photography backed by a hardware depth engine for high-quality Depth of Field (Bokeh) effects in delivering some stunning portrait photos. Brands have the privilege to add their own AI camera features, such as AI beautification and precision in single or dual-camera Bokeh capture.

Dual 4G SIM Support — Supporting Dual 4G SIM, it comes with a 4G LTE Cat-7 modem (2 CC-CA) ensuring maximum power efficiency. The 4G LTE Cat-7 modem provides VoLTE/ViLTE services on both connections of the Dual 4G SIM.

Connectivity — It supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5. Both integrated Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5 assist in simultaneous co-existence leading to amplifying throughput and connection reliability when using Wi-Fi and wireless peripherals like headphones and gamepads.

MediaTek Helio G36 seems to be the perfect upgradation to MediaTek Helio G35 with more larger and immersive displays along with advancements in camera configurations. Made using a power-efficient 12nm FinFET production process, the G36 delivers superb power efficiency. It makes sure that Entry-level gaming smartphones now have the benefits of faster displays, bigger cameras, MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite gaming technology, and global dual 4G connectivity with intelligent connectivity technologies, all in a highly power-efficient 12nm chip. Promising so much more, I think MediaTek Helio G36 definitely meets the demands of entry-level mobile gamers.
