Movie Sequels — Are They Really Necessary?
Has there been a time when you have been really impressed by movie sequels? Almost every movie that had sequels were always disappointing. Maybe the audience expects more and the excitement level is so high that even if the movie is good we find it disappointing in some way or the other. It is a very common experience that the original is always the best and the sequels are always rated very low.
If we genuinely think about almost all the movie sequels they are a lot of depressing numbers and it’s just terrible. Like the Mission Impossible II was just so heartbreakingly bad that I couldn’t even finish the whole movie, no doubt tom Cruise did a great job but the story line could have been better. Another movie that was just a bad example of the worst sequel ever was the Pirates of the Caribbean, Guess what? I slept off in between the movie It was that bad.
I think the most common reason for terrible sequels is sometimes the same character doesn’t come back or is replaced by some actor. It is very disappointing for the crowd or the audience not to see the same actor. I mean I’m sure some stars really try to maintain their reputation so they try to avoid such intense situations of not coming back to the same movie, Though it is very disappointing for the audience, especially when it is a fan. Also, It could be that The original movie sets the bar really high that it makes it impossible for the sequel to reach the expectations of the audience and then they try really hard to go offbeat with the original one and fails terribly.
There are times when a movie is directed by different directors and producers and it is obvious that both would have different visions and imaginations so at that point, everything clashes and leads to a big failure like the old saying “Too many cooks spoil the broth”.
There are times when the movie just gets stretched a lot and the ending gets dragged for so long that by the end of the movie, there’s just so much confusion and nothing else. I think this happens when they try to predict the story line of one movie in different ways or sometimes there’s this long gap between the original movie and the sequel that the excitement of the fans gets burned out.
