Poco has just announced the release of its latest smartphone, Poco M5, and the device has already started gathering attention for its features and specs. Let us take a quick look.

Display & Design — The 6.58-inch, 90Hz LCD screen on the POCO M5 4G has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a brightness setting of 500 nits. Although the display isn’t all that bad, it has a waterdrop notch. On the reverse, POCO used plastic but gave it a leather-like texture. It has the texture of leather, not real leather. Given that this smartphone costs Rs 12,499, the plastic frame is sort of acceptable, and the front is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The 500 nits of display brightness are adequate.

Performance — The Mediatek Helio G99 CPU inside the smartphone powers it. An improved version of the Helio G96 is the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC. The SoC should now have better battery life thanks to Mediatek’s upgraded CPU, although the GPU has also seen some minor improvements. For a smartphone that costs Rs 12499, you would be able to enjoy games including COD Mobile and BGMI Mobile quite smoothly. There have been no comments from POCO on upcoming upgrades, however based on past experience, the phone should soon receive an Android 13 update. The device is powered by MIUI 13, which is based on Android 12.

Camera — With an 8MP selfie camera on the front, the POCO M5 4G has a 50MP main sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The front and back cameras can both capture 1080p@30fps footage. While there is some noise and softness in the photographs captured by the 50MP sensors in excellent illumination, they nevertheless produce usable photos. A specific night mode has also been created by POCO, and the dynamic range is well-balanced. The POCO M5 4G offers respectable cameras overall.

Battery — The gadget has a built-in 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W rapid charging. The 18W charger is included in the package. The MediaTek Helio G99 CPU ensures that the battery has a long life.

The 4GB and 64GB storage edition of the POCO M5 4G costs Rs 12,499 in India, while the 8GB and 128GB storage model costs Rs 14,449. The smartphone comes in the colours POCO Yellow, Icy Blue, and Power Black. On September 13, 2022, at noon, it will be put up for sale on Flipkart. Looking at all the features, I am pretty impressed by the smartphone, what about you?
