Both are pretty good mid-range chipsets but one of them is slightly better

In recent times, both Qualcomm and MediaTek have launched 5G supported processors for smartphones in which the Snapgradon 690 and Dimensity 720 emerged as the ones supported by budget 5G smartphones. They are both powerful processors with some of the best hardware and software possible such as high-frequency GPU & CPU, high refresh rate, 5G, and ultra megapixel sensor support. But, one of them has a significant edge over the other.

Speaking of the Snapdragon 690, it supports Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) and Sub 6 GHz. The Dimensity 720 also supports Sub 6 GHz and is meant for mid-range smartphones. They both have an octa-core SoC with 64-bit architecture but MediaTek has an edge here as it comes with a 7nm fabrication compared to Snapdragon’s 8nm. The smaller the SoC’s diameter, the better the chip is in terms of performance and energy efficiency.

The 690 comes with 2 x A77 cores at 2.0 GHz and 6 x A55 cores at 1.7 GHz. Meanwhile, the Dimensity 720 has 2 x A76 cores at 2.0 GHz and 6 x A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. Coming to the GPU, The 690 has the Adreno 619 L and the Dimensity 720 comes with the Mali G57. It’s clear that the MediaTek chip definitely has an advantage in the GPU department. If you compare the modem of both the chips, the Dimensity 720 once again fares better in that regard by giving you higher 5G speeds.

Overall taking everything into consideration, the Dimensity 720 seems to be a superior processor compared to the Snapdragon 690.
