A fresh new smartphone from the Tecno universe

The Camon 16 premier is a total upgrade from the Camon 15 in a lot of ways. This new phone by Tecno brings with it a total design revamp and a specs upgrade. For the first time on a Tecno smartphone, you get a 90Hz refresh rate and a quick fingerprint scanner on the side of the phone instead of at the back or at the bottom. The selfie camera shows new features and comes in two modes: regular selfie mode and wide-angle selfie mode.

The first thing that will catch your eye is the glossy design of the outer cover of the Tecno Camon 16 Premier. Though it comes with a plastic back and frame, the shiny design looks very sleek. The display is a wow factor in this phone with the screen an impressive 6.9 inch. Phones with huge screens like this one make watching films, TV shows, and youtube videos a delight. Especially because it comes with HD 10+. The fact that it has a refresh rate of 90Hz and a MediaTek Helio G90 T processor with 8 cores makes it even more attractive especially if you are a mobile gamer. That, coupled with 8 gigs of RAM and a 4,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support is a steal at this price tbh.

One of the coolest features of this phone is that it comes with super-fast charging, reviews online show that you can juice it up to more than 70% from 0 in about 30 minutes which is a really good speed. Next, as I mentioned before, it has a pretty good refresh rate of 90Hz which is achieved by something called the dynamic refresh rate that Tecno uses. Pair that up with the MediaTek processor, and you get a wonderfully smooth device. Along with 8 gigs of RAM, this makes it perfect for gaming purposes if you’re into that.

And of course, the major change seen in the Tecno Camon 16 Premier is the quad-camera setup which boasts of 5 LED flash and shooting in 4K at 30 fps along with different video modes like slow-mo and portrait mode. It also comes with the live focus mode where you can make your subject stand out and the background blurry. Now, it’s not perfect but it’s a start. The super steady mode lets you shoot a smooth and steady video which is great for mobile videography enthusiasts. This phone also has a cool feature called the AR doodle which lets you scribble an object into your environment and allows you to interact with it.

The phone has a downward-facing mono speaker which might be a bit of an issue while playing games but it’s yet to be seen how that will fare. Let the reviews commence and then we shall see. Overall though, it seems to be a pretty good smartphone with really good specs.

The camera is undoubtedly the highlight of this phone with 6 sensors and a quad-camera setup that takes sharp images in the daylight and even in low light situations. Looking at all these impressive features for just 17K, I am of the opinion that this phone is truly worth buying.
