Many popular stereotypes are referring to cat and their owners as the crazy cat lady. Whenever there are stories about cats generally it is associated with the phrase, crazy cat lady. Though many people don’t know that it’s not a thing that is associated with depression or anxiety. Many studies show that it is not associated with psychotic symptoms which is patently false. Different studies show that it is also found that cat and dog owners are more likely to empathize with an animal’s distress calls, with owners getting sadder than non-owners when they heard a cat meow or a dog whimper.

Dismissing all the myths and ideas about cat owners or dog owners. I think that it’s all about one’s preferences. The crazy ct lady became one of the most pop-culture most enduring sexist probes associated with mental disorders and women. It was also seen especially with unmarried women or spinsters that lives alone with their pets. It mostly represents a woman that is sad or lonely who uses cats or dogs as a substitute for both lovers and children. And on the other hand, while it’s true that pop culture has worked overtime to keep false stereotypes alive, the cat lady also has her roots in hundreds of years of history.

It is denoted that during ancient times cats and female deities go hand to hand. If we look at history many female deities were related to cats. In the early 18th century, as the witch trials were widely recognized as a grave miscarriage of justice, single women with cats were suddenly transformed in the public eye from frightening fiends to figures to be pitied. So if we study all the history behind cats and women, it is not only in today’s trend that they associated women and cats but was also seen as a bad omen or obscene during ancient times.

Though it was around the 20s that the cat lady became popular. The thing that connects every period of cat lady has little to do with the animals themselves. Rather, it’s about a deep-rooted fear of feminine power and female autonomy which society tries to deny as according to many societies they don’t accept the power of women. Fear of goddesses, fear of witches, fear of single women. I think it’s all about embracing their power but sadly many people took it as obscene. As such, if you find yourself branded a cat lady, then embrace it as a badge of honour.
