I can understand that all my followers must be surprised at this blog, as I do not write about movies. I think this is the first time that I am writing about any movie, but I just watched The Kashmir Files a few days ago, and could not stop myself from giving an honest review, in midst of all controversies that have been going on. Let us talk about the film in detail and also address the controversy that has been going on.

Acting -

The acting that has been done in this film is absolutely phenomenal. Everyone shines in their roles, but Anupam Kher has done the best job, obviously. However, Mithun Chakravarty could have done a better job at portraying the government officer, but everyone else has been amazing in this movie. Every role, from Shiva to Krishna and Sharda, has been portrayed with utmost perfection.

Cinematography -

The movie has been shot beautifully. When it comes to cinematography, Indian cinema has been far behind, but The Kashmir Files has changed that fact. The shots and frames tend to set the dark tone instantly when the movie starts. The scene where you see two dead bodies hanging from a tree can put any horror movie to shame. 10/10 marks for cinematography.

Story-

There is nothing extra ordinary about the story. It is a story about one family and the film showcases what happened to them in the Kashmir genocide, yes genocide, that happened in 1990. There is no ‘Bollywood’ hero in this movie, neither there is a heroine. But still, the constant flash backs and the emotions keep you attached with the story.

Controversy -

Is it a propaganda film? No, it is a movie based on true events. Everybody calling it a propaganda film should go and talk to their friends or neighbors who come from Kashmir and ask them if this happened or not. And some people might come ahead and say ‘but what about kashmiri muslims?’ Well, this movie is about Kashmiri Pandits, and it focuses on the oppressed, not the oppressor.

In the end, I urge all of you to go and watch this movie. Be it for patriotic reasons or love just sheer love of art, none of us should miss such an amazing film.
