Bollywood and TV were the prime sources of entertainment for Indian audiences all throughout the 90s and 2000s. But after the latter decade ended, we saw a downfall in TV viewership because of the exponential spread on the internet. Later in the ‘2010s decade, we saw the introduction of OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. These platforms provided us with some amazing pieces of cinema that we could not see in the theatres. The one series that started it all was Sacred Games. After 2017, the craze of OTT platforms was huge.

Then came COVID in 2020, and it immensely helped OTT platforms. It also destroyed the entire theatre business for around 2 years. We all witnessed OTT platforms get ahead of theatres and traditional cinema. We all thought it was the end of the traditional ‘theatre wala Bollywood’. However, I was sure cinema would make a big comeback and take its place. Around this time, because of the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, the audiences went against all the big names of Bollywood, which coincidentally were giving theatrical releases. This was another big shock to the cinema business.

A string of bad Bollywood movies throughout 2021 and 2022 could have been the final nail in the coffin for the end of Bollywood, but thankfully, the later part of 2022 saved Bollywood. While no Bollywood theatrical release was making movies, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 came in and did some good business. Then came other movies like Gangubai, and we all know what a hit Kashmir Files was. As all the Bollywood fans were happy, their happiness increased with the release of Brahmastra, which became the biggest Bollywood movie earning more than 400 crores. Recently, Dhrishyam 2 has also been released, and the movie is doing some incredible business.

If you think this is a good comeback, think about what Bollywood has instore for the future. We are going to see the comeback of Shahrukh Khan, and 2 back to back Salman Khan releases next year. Also, big stars like Hritik Roshan and Ajay Devgn are making some big movies, that are surely going to impressive the viewers. While Covid is showing no signs of coming back, it is an amazing sign to the Bollywood industry and also to all the theatre owners. I always knew that Bollywood was going to make a comeback, but a lot of people had some doubts. If all goes well, every doubt will be countered by Bollywood! Do you think this is a good comeback from Bollywood? Or do you think the film industry needs to do better? Comment down below.
