Training Abs Won’t Get You Abs — Fitness Blog
As someone who has been working out for a lot of years now, I have seen countless people come into the gym or come up to me with just one question, “I have been during numerous abs exercises, but cannot develop my abs. Why? Well, because training abs is not going to get you abs. Let me explain to you how. The food we eat, our body consumes and burns it for energy that is needed for us to function. But a lot of us eat more than what our body needs, so our body saves that extra food as fat to be used as energy later.
The fat is stored in many places in our body in various proportions depending on our genetics. But usually, the most amount of fat gets stored in the abdominal area. When we start working out and lifting weights, our body starts developing muscles for us because it feels the need to have more strength due to the intense training sessions we put ourselves through. This is exactly why we see our arms and chest pop out with muscles after months of workouts and a protein-rich diet. In the same way, our body also develops our abdominal muscles if we train them properly.
But there is one problem with being able to see abs. There is usually a layer of fat present on our abdominal area that makes it difficult for our abs to be visible. And a lot of times, we are told by our gym trainers that we need to train abs more frequently to have visible abs, which is clearly not the case. To have visible abs we need to get rid of the existing layer of fat. And no type of abdominal training can help you get rid of fat, it can only burn calories and train your muscles.
Thinking that doing exercises that put the stress around your stomach will help you get a leaner belly is far from true. Spot reduction is not possible. Your body loses fat from all parts simultaneously. The only way to get visible abs is to get rid of that fat by dieting and being in a slight caloric deficit for some time. Another way people hinder their abs growth is by overtraining them. You only need to train your abs like any other muscle group, only once or twice a week. Anything more than that will have a negative impact on your muscle growth. I hope you have understood the basics about getting your abs visible. Best of your luck to get in shape!
