I don’t know about you but I’ve been a fan of mysterious happenings, occult stuff and true crime ever since I was a little kid. It might mainly have to do with me growing up on my Dad’s ghost stories every night and me listening to him with fascinated ears.

I watched many true crime documentaries on Netflix and YouTube last year during the lockdown slump and now, I’m ready for my 2021 summer binge. Here are some of the docus I’ve watched and some been itching to watch:

Why Did You Kill Me? (Netflix)

Okay so I already watched this one but omg, this one was so tragic and unfortunate that I feel everyone really must give it a watch. This doc is all about what happens when a mother goes on a widespread internet search to find her daughter’s murderers. While she was able to provide key info for the investigation, it eventually took a toll on the rest of the family involved. But as they say — be careful of what you post on social media. It can come back to haunt you.

Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer (Netflix)

It’s 1985, and Los Angeles has a serial killer on the loose. This documentary investigates why the killer had no real pattern behind the murders, and it includes interviews from the detectives who were on the ground during the investigation.

Sasquatch (Hulu)

Are you thinking this is the name of a mythical creature? Well, yes, you’re correct. But in 1993, journalist David Holthouse overheard a story where three men were indeed murdered by Sasquatch himself. Determined to find out the real story, he quickly learned that the tall tale was just the tip of the murder iceberg….

Rifkin on Rifkin: Confessions of a Serial Killer (YouTube)

This murderer was so infamous that the murders in question were referenced in an episode of Seinfeld. Exploring Joel Rifkin’s road to infamy (including going to prison on nine counts of murder!), this document goes into the man’s life, including visiting the prison where he’s currently staying until — no, really — 2197.

Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (Netflix)

This is one of my fav watch this year. L.A. is well known for its murder mysteries, but this doc, chronicling the death of Elisa Lam at the Cecil Hotel, is one of the most intriguing. It’s both a tragic story but also one where it truly makes you wonder just how much people are willing to keep under wraps in order to hide a big secret.
