Horror as a genre is something not everyone can pull off. There needs to be a bunch of different elements coming together to create a masterpiece that can entertain and scare the socks off even the most hardcore fans. 2021 is more than 4 months underway and I can’t wait to check out all the upcoming horror films that await us this year. Let’s dig into the list!
A Quiet Place Part II — May 2021
A big horror sequel coming to theaters in 2021 is A Quiet Place Part II, once again written and directed by John Krasinski. It’s about the Abbott family living in a world filled with lurking, sound-sensitive monsters. This time they’ll meet other survivors as their survival transcends past simply staying silent.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It — June 2021
The main story will continue which will once again follow real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. This time they are dealing with the real 1981 “Devil Made Me Do It” court case which marked the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.
The Forever Purge — July 2021
This summer’s horror season will rage on with another franchise return in July with The Forever Purge, the fifth and expected conclusion to the series that started back in 2013.
The Night House — July 2021
One of the most critically-acclaimed horror movies of the summer may be The Night House. The movie stars Rebecca Hall as a widow who starts to uncover her late husband’s secrets following a series of hauntings at the lakeside home he built for her. The Night House already premiered at Sundance last year.
Candyman — August 2021
Nia DaCosta’s Candyman is one of the most exciting summer 2021 hopefuls. The movie is a spiritual sequel to the ’90s franchise starring Tony Todd as the Candyman. It will take fans to the same Cabrini-Green public housing project of Chicago, which has now been gentrified. Visual artist Anthony and his gallery director girlfriend Brianna move there and learn about the horrors of the slasher story firsthand.
