During our college days, me and friends were so drawn towards the culture of Hippie. Actually, I think we were more fascinated by the Bohemian lifestyle with all the vibrant colours and free-flowing clothes that they wear. It was very trending during our college days. We would go shop in Paharganj located in New Delhi, that place was like heaven for hipsters or hippie people. Hipster’s cultural movement was a very influential movement globally, it began in America but it spread worldwide and influenced millions coming together as one with all the struggles and fighting as one. There are even so many famous musicians and singers involved with the movement and fighting for the rights against the power of government. There are even so many songs written based on the revolution and are still famously prevailing everywhere.

Hippies were the youth movement during the early 1960s. Harlem was the most infamous rising culture where there was non-stop music and dancing with no rules anywhere. It was known for its frequent dancing, music and alcohol and drugs. Hipsters had a different view on life they were like an alternative lifestyle array of groups that were more against the idealogy of modern men In short the Capitalism. They had this idealogy of “free love”. No doubt I have often seen hippies that are extremely talented and pretty smart people. But I believe that people often, mistake them for being deviant in society or taboo. Whereas everyone has the right to be themselves.

Although, I should say that the hipsters an era ago were way different from the millennial hipsters today. Earlier it was more of an egalitarian society focusing on the economy, revolting against the misuse of people’s rights but these days it’s just all about following the trend. I mean the old school hipsters are no more around. These days it’s all about disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of chaotic life and going on a retreat to some hipster or hippie community as vacation and nothing to do with the old school kinda lifestyle or more like something that people with guts or money can do and the rest can’t afford to do it. Isn’t it funny? How the tables have turned. Earlier it was seen as taboo but now people are paying to be a part of it.

The originality of hippies is actually no more. It seems to be dying every day.
