Why is Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice the Ideal Man?
While reading Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice I had this really great majestic imagination about Mr Darcy’s character. Many readers found Mr Darcy’s role as arrogant and rude in the beginning but for me, my impression was so different. I had this manly, handsome, well mannered and honest man who is so particular about what he wants in women. Of course, when Elizabeth Bennet met him for the first time at a Ball, he was just being himself so she found him to be rude and heartless and that is surely not her fault as many women would take it that way especially when its the first meet. Mr Darcy was very simple in his nature.
He was very straightforward and knows what he wants. At the beginning of the Novel, not only Elizabeth but also the readers despise him because of his nature but as you proceed with the readings everyone desired Mr Darcy.
What made me fall for the character of Mr Darcy was that even if he was arrogant and seemed like he didn’t care about the world. He listens to women and is not afraid to change himself while sticking to his principles. Even though he was from the Elite class. He hated the pretentious, hypocrisies of high-class society and that is the reason why he disappointed Elizabeth at the first meet, as he spoke honestly about Elizabeth mother who was quite gossipy in character. And he thought Elizabeth was not attractive at first which was quick to judge and wasn’t his finest hour.
Now after all the dramas that happened between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth, when Elizabeth spoke outrightly about what he did. He genuinely accepted his fault and did not try to defend himself. Which made Mr Darcy more attractive in character. He kept silent and only tried to prove the surface through his actions and nothing else. In these scenes in the novel, he writes a letter to Elizabeth explaining his side of his story without acting defensive.
Mr Darcy never tried to change Elizabeth and he embrace her as how she was even though both were two poles apart. He allowed her mind to speak whatever was within her, even though there were many critics surrounding them from the elite class. He respects, listens and he was privately filled with kindness and goodness even though many people think that he was rude in nature.
